1.4. 2005: The Biological diversity of the world will be gone by a few generations
The earth is spinning gently on like it has for billions of years. It serves the human species perfectly. While nobody paid much attention, the human species destroyed most of the mammals ten thousand years ago. Thousands of other species have been driven into extinction by man since the beginning of the industrial revolution a mere three hundred years ago.
The earth is currently in the early phase of the sixth major extinction event in the history of the earth. We must all as individuals ensure that we act responsibly in our usage of the earth. You as an individual must ensure that your environmental footprint, the damage to earth you leave behind for your children and grandchildren to clean up, is as close to zero as possible. You are probably realizing that this would mean giving up your extravagant lifestyle. It would mean that you can not buy new clothes when you have tons of perfectly good clothes just because a new fashion is being marketed effectively by powerful corporations. It means you should travel by bike or foot instead of using a car or other pollution transportation when it is possible. It means never doing anything which contributes to doing damage on the earth and it's great abundance of biological diversity.
Are you prepared to adapt to a sustainable lifestyle? No? Thought so. You are not alone, and that is why the earth is doomed. It will not come suddenly. You will not wake up tomorrow and find that some disaster has happened. The world will simply slowly and gradually become a poorer place until there is close to no biological diversity left. Animals and other biological diversity will continue to go extinct until only those animals the human species maintains in factory farm conditions to service ourselves are left.
Todays society is unsustainable. The earth is rapidly changing into a gray, artificial planet with landmasses carefully constructed to service only the human species.
Only you and your actions can change the current course of humanity, and that is precisely why this destruction started over ten thousand years ago, why the rate of it rapidly increased three hundred years ago and it is also why the destruction rate continues to increase while nobody pays much attention.

2.1. 1996: GNU Copyleft evolves
The biggest event of the year happened when the GNU Copyleft legal license was drawn to help fight mind control by restricting knowledge using Copyright to prevent poor people to access useful information, thereby keeping them down. Knowledge has historically been shared freely, the copying of scrolls was what made the great library of Alexandria in Egypt possible. Huge achievements where accomplished there by allowing a free flow of information. Copyright is a tool which in effect allows corporations to own thoughts and ideas. The introduction of Copyleft, a license which says you can use a share freely as long as you allow other people to do the same, is a very important step towards peace and understanding on earth.
All forms of copyright will by nature make the general population poorer. Copyleft is the exception because it is in essence a copyright which says that the work can not be copyrighted. (under anything but Copyleft, that is)
2.2. 1960s: The hippies realize the immense damage being done to the earth by mankind and preach peace, love and rock 'n' roll.
A peoples movement to change the world was started in the sixties. Without much structure and organization a whole generation got onto the fact that the human species are gravely abusing the earth. People started to become hippies. The hippie phenomenon spread quickly in the early sixties and glass-window democracy governments started to threat the whole culture as a disease.
The hippies where a generation who wanted peace, love and rock ' n ' roll. They also wanted to be able to legally use drugs like cannabis and LSD, and LSD was used widely during the sixties. "LSD used wisely, can produce the greatest ecstasy that mans knows, the ecstasy of revelation, seeing that there is more." said Timothy Leary. Not everybody agreed with Learys perception that LSD is extremely good for everybody. The inventor of the drug, Albert Hoffman, warned that a substance which has such deep effects should be respected and never taken casually. He pointed out that such substances are in the hands of the shamans, special people, in the cultures who have been using psychedelic drugs for thousands of years and that such cultures have numerous rituals designed to guide the trippers and prevent any bad effects.
The hippies were very much about peace and love. Many of them were also talking about the earth and the environment and how we should take care of it and save it. The hippies where not heard by anyone with power, they were considered a threat to the structure of society and dealt with successfully like a disease.
Glass-window democracy governments managed to pass two global laws to eradicate the believed cause of the hippie phenomenon. The UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs from 1961, and after the Controlled Substances Act was passed in the US in 1970 the world agreed to pass the UN Convention on Psychotropic Substances from 1971 without allowing any public vote or debate.
The sixties movement eventually disappeared and the hippies were molded back into productive, government or corporately employed, mindless and most importantly extravagant-consuming members of society.
